Com o calendário da Fórmula 1 cada vez mais apertado e as restrições de testes cada vez mais rígidas, as equipes precisam aproveitar ao máximo cada oportunidade de colocar seus carros na pista. Além dos poucos dias de testes de pré-temporada e dos tradicionais dias de filmagem, existe uma alternativa valiosa: os TPCs – Testes de Carros Anteriores (Testing of Previous Cars).
Esses testes permitem que as equipes utilizem modelos de Fórmula 1 de até três temporadas anteriores; ou seja, em 2025, as escuderias podem usar carros das temporadas de 2023, 2022 ou 2021.
O objetivo principal dos TPCs é oferecer tempo de pista adicional sem violar os regulamentos atuais. Contudo, há restrições importantes: as equipes não podem testar peças novas nesses carros. Apenas componentes já usados em corridas ou testados anteriormente podem ser instalados, garantindo que nenhum desenvolvimento recente seja avaliado fora das regras.
Embora não seja possível testar novidades, os caros de um mesmo regulamento, geralmente são uma evolução dos seus antecessores. Colocar esses equipamentos para rodar e fazer uma correlação com o último carro pode dar um norte para o desenvolvimento do equipamento mais recente.
Regras e limites
Cada equipe tem direito a 20 dias de TPC por ano, mas os pilotos que competem no campeonato só podem percorrer até 1.000 km nesses testes. Essa quilometragem pode ser dividida em no máximo quatro dos 20 dias disponíveis. Dessa forma, a FIA impede que as equipes usem os TPCs para dar vantagem extra a seus pilotos titulares.
Para os pilotos que vão trocar de equipes, incluindo nessa mudança a utilização de um motor desconhecido ou outra marca de freios, é interessante para o competidor se familiarizar.
Ainda assim, as sessões são extremamente valiosas — especialmente para novos pilotos, jovens talentos ou novos membros que precisam conhecer os processos das equipes. É um ambiente controlado, ideal para adaptação, coleta de dados e treinamento de procedimentos operacionais.
Além da função técnica, os TPCs servem também como uma espécie de “pré-aquecimento” antes do início da temporada. É ideal para o momento de pausa entre o término do campeonato e o começo dos testes de pré-temporada, assim o competidor também consegue recuperar um pouco do ritmo.
