Kazuki Nakajima, vice-presidente da equipe, ex-piloto e lenda das pistas, está em São Paulo não apenas para acompanhar a performance dos protótipos japoneses, mas para reforçar a aposta da Toyota na energia limpa. O ex-campeão das 24 Horas de Le Mans veio pessoalmente explicar como o GR LH2 Racing Concept — apresentado no mês passado em La Sarthe — não é só um carro, mas um manifesto sobre a mobilidade que queremos.

“Esperamos que ele se torne um bom exemplo”, disse Nakajima sobre o protótipo movido a hidrogênio líquido. “Estamos animados para testá-lo na pista. Queremos aprender com ele e contribuir para uma revolução no automobilismo.” E revolução não é exagero: o carro apresentado em Le Mans usa tecnologia de ponta para provar que desempenho e sustentabilidade podem andar — ou melhor, voar — lado a lado.
E essa revolução tem endereço: o autódromo de Interlagos. Quem circula pelos boxes neste fim de semana também se depara com a Mission H24, uma vitrine de iniciativas desenvolvidas com apoio da FIA, ACO e fabricantes para transformar o esporte em um laboratório de soluções limpas. Ou seja, além de torcer por ultrapassagens e disputas eletrizantes, o público participa, ainda que indiretamente, de uma mudança que vai muito além das pistas.
A Toyota, que há anos investe em híbridos e alternativas à combustão tradicional, reforça que não aposta em uma só carta. “A neutralidade de carbono é um grande tema para nós”, completou Nakajima. “Apoiamos várias tecnologias: motores elétricos, energia hidroelétrica, e o hidrogênio é uma grande promessa.”
No fundo, há algo simbólico em apresentar tudo isso em Interlagos. Um templo do automobilismo latino-americano, vibrante e apaixonado, agora também palco de ideias que podem transformar o esporte em um aliado da causa ambiental.
